A Los Angeles jury on 23rd December Friday found rapper and singer Tory Lanez (30) guilty of 3 charges related to the incident that occurred in July 2020, where he shot a fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion (27) in the Hollywood Hills.
On 23rd December 2022, Tory was convicted of 3 charges:
- Assault with a semi-automatic firearm
- Having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle
- Discharging a firearm with gross negligence
The jury convicted Tory on all counts.
Megan accused Tory of shooting her foot after she exited a vehicle they were in following an argument.
In Megan’s testimony during the trial, she said things were tense in the car between Tory, her, and Kelsey Harris (former friend and assistant). Megan testified Tory wanted her to be clear with Kelsey about the fact that the 2 of them had been intimate. But Megan was uncomfortable doing so because she knew Kelsey had a crush on Tory. She said while she exited the car, it was then when Tory shot her.
Megan froze and was shocked. During the testimony, she showed incredible courage and vulnerability despite repeated attacks.
Tory did not take the stand in his defense during the 9-day trial. The jury, comprised of 5 men and 7 women, began deliberating on Thursday, 22nd December, and the verdict was reached on the 23rd of December, Friday afternoon.
After the verdict was announced, the sheriff took him out of the courtroom in handcuffs. He faced a maximum of 22 years in prison and possibly deportation back to his native Canada.
