James Whitman McLamore co-founded the Burger King fast-food franchise with David Edgerton.
McLamore formerly worked as an employee and ran a business. On March 1, 1954, Edgerton established the first Insta Burger King in Miami, Florida. On June 1, three months later, he met McLamore and together, they founded the Burger King Corporation.
In 1957, the company launched Burger King shops and introduced the Whopper burger and dropped the “Insta” from the name. In 1967, the two sold the company to Pillsbury, and McLamore continued as president and chairman of Burger King until 1970.

James McLamore ventured into the restaurant business, and his first job was at the YMCA restaurant in Wilmington. Hee then quit the position to open his 24/7 fast food restaurant in Colonial Inn James then left the second to start the third one in Miami, the hotel called Bridge Restaurant.
The hotel was located at 550 Brickel Avenue. James McLane founded the Burger King Corporation together with David Edgerton.
