Gavin Newsom is an American-based politician and businessman. Since 2019, he has been the 40th governor of California. After graduating, Gavin founded the PlumpJack wine store along with Gordon Getty (a family friend) as an investor. On 14th May 1991, Gavin and some investors created PlumpJack Associates L.P. The following year, the group started the PlumpJack Winery with the financial help of Gordon Getty, a family friend. 

The business grew to an enterprise and had more than 700 employees. Further, in 1993, on Fillmore Street, the PlumpJack Cafe Partners opened the PlumpJack Café. Between 1993 to 2000, Gavin and his investors opened several other businesses, including the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn with a PlumpJack Café, a winery in Napa Valley, the Balboa Café Bar and Grill, the PlumpJack Development Fund L.P., the MatrixFillmore Bar, PlumpJack Wines shop Noe Valley branch, PlumpJackSport retail clothing, and a second Balboa Café at Squaw Valley. Political career:

In 1995, Gavin’s first political experience came when he volunteered for a successful campaign for mayor Willie Brown. Later, at his PlumpJack Café, Gavin also hosted a private fundraiser. In 1996, Brown appointed him to a vacant Parking and Traffic Commission seat. Further, he was elected president of the commission. Brown appointed Gavin to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors seat the following year. 

In 1998, after looking at the business experience used in his work, Gavin was elected to a full four-year term on the board. In 2000 and 2002, he was reelected to represent the second district, which includes the Marina, Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow, Laurel Heights, and Sea Cliff.

On 4th November 2014, Gavin was reelected as lieutenant governor by defeating Ron Nehring with 57.2% of the vote. On 5th January 2015, his second term began. During his term, Gavin worked for criminal justice and cannabis legalization, education, and technology in government.

On 7th February 2013, Gavin released his first book, Citizenville: How to Take the Town Square Digital and Reinvent Government. The book is based on the topic Gov 2.0 movement.

On 11th February 2015, Gavin announced that in the 2018 elections, he was opening a campaign account for governor and allowing him to raise campaign funds to succeed Brown as governor of California. On 5th June 2018, he defeated Republican John H. Cox in the 6th November general election. Later, on 7th January 2019, Gavin was sworn in.

In 2022, Gavin was elected to a 2nd term, defeating Republican state senator Brian Dahle.
