And in 1903, when playing for the Detroit Tigers, his.379 on-base percentage was good enough for fourth best in the American League.

To add insult to injury, his 70 bases on balls were good for second in the league. Lush excelled as an outfielder, and his skills were well regarded. He played center field for the Boston Beaneaters in 1902 and contributed 24 assists.

His range factor of 2.42 in 1903, when he debuted with the Detroit Tigers, was 0.50 points greater than the average in the American League.
