He said he is very proud of the film and wrote, “Straight People, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing, but it is what it is.”
“Bros” is an LGBTQ romantic comedy and the first gay film by Universal Pictures. The expected opening range was $8-10 million. But the film took in just $4.8 million, playing in 3,350 locations this weekend. Even with great reviews, excellent Rotten Tomatoes scores, and an A CinemaScore, It was fourth at the box office.
The film was produced for a modest $22M, and Universal spent another $30M on advertising and promotion.
