Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to William Alvin Pitt, a truck company owner, and Jane Etta Pitt, a school counselor. [2] He eventually resided with his younger sister and brother in Springfield, Missouri, where the family had recently relocated. 

In 1982, Pitt, then eighteen, enrolled at the University of Missouri to pursue a journalism major with a concentration in advertising. He performed in multiple plays as a Sigma Chi fraternity member. One semester before graduating, he left school to pursue an acting career.

In a recent court filing, Angelina Jolie accused her ex-husband Brad Pitt of choking and yelling at their son Maddox during an incident on a private plane in 2016. Jolie also claimed that Pitt had been drinking heavily before the incident occurred. The couple’s six children were present on the plane at the time.

Jolie is seeking full physical custody of the children, while Pitt is asking for joint custody. A hearing is scheduled for December 4 to discuss the matter further.
