Following six seasons, the Shemar Moore-led CBS drama’s cancellation last week appeared to spell the end of one of the network’s largest primetime dramas. The drama series SWAT on CBS will continue for one more season after the network changed its mind about cancelling it.
The network on Monday picked up a final season, three days after announcing that SWAT would stop with its sixth season, which concludes on May 19. But news is that CBS and Sony Pictures Television have brought the show back for a seventh season.
S.W.A.T. Season 7 Release Date: When will it premiere?
After the cancellation news, negotiations regarding restarting the series were, according to those familiar with the matter, moving in a favourable manner. This worked out for the wildly popular series. A joint statement released by from Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment, and Katherine Pope, President, Sony Pictures Television Studios, throws some light into the status of the final season.
Despite being cut down from Season 6’s 22-episode order, the statement clarifies that S.W.A.T. would continue for another 13 episodes, which would at least guarantee that Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore) and company get to fight another day.
A decision on the future of S.W.A.T. could be made shortly because CBS is expected to reveal its whole schedule, including some of its other major renewals, on Wednesday. But we are sure the seventh and final season of the Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios co-produced sitcom will now air on CBS.

Television un-cancellations are uncommon. It’s not unusual for shows to go from one platform or network to another; popular series like You, Futurama, and Arrested Development have found new homes; however, it’s quite another for a network to completely change its mind.
S.W.A.T. Season 6 Rating:
SWAT’s sixth season typically draws 5.03 million viewers and a 0.42 rating in the 18-49 demographic (including all DVR playback through 3:00 AM). That represents a decline of 8% in the demo and an increase of 17% in viewers compared to season five. These figures are a fairly good indication of how a show is performing, especially when compared to other programmes on the same channel, even though they do not consider subsequent delayed or streamed viewing.

SWAT is a cheesy series that is predictable and involves political-racial issues. The cast is good, but Hondo has the worst acting. It is easy to forget every episode because of the lack of an interesting and deep storyline. The first two seasons were good, but the last two seasons are lectured to with woke politics and character analysis.

For the final season, Moore will join Ryan, Justin Lin, Neal Moritz, Marney Hochman, Pavun Shetty, Billy Gierhart, Andy Dettman, and Paul Bernard as executive producers. The series, which was based on the identically named programme from the 1970s, was produced by Ryan and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas.
S.W.A.T. Season 7 Plot: What could happen?
With the confirmation of a third season, we can assume that the show will officially return some time in the autumn of 2023, with the month of October being the most likely candidate, exactly as the previous two episodes for the TV season 2023–24. This is only possible if the manufacturing is well-timed and finished on schedule. Since it wouldn’t make sense to extend the final season for months, the network will make every effort to avoid further delays in the release of the episodes.
