After the divisive conclusion of Game of Thrones, most fans were dissatisfied, but now, the dragon lovers can rejoice once more. The Home Box Office (HBO) announced that they would be renewing a new season from the Fantasy writer George R.R. Martin. The Game of Thrones prequel series will be titled House of the Dragon, and it is an adaptation of Fire and Blood, which tells the narrative of Targaryen. The series will explore major battles such as the aftermath of the Doom of Valyria and the Dance of Dragons, also referred to as the Targaryen Civil War. Interestingly, this prequel is set 300 years before events in the Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones Prequel Series Release Date:
According to Casey Bloys, the HBO programming president, the House of Dragon is expected to arrive in two years. The HBO has ordered a full series of 10 episodes, and a promotional poster has already been released with the tagline ‘Fire Will Reign.’ The creative team has already embarked on writing the script, and the filming should start sometime in 2021. Therefore, expect the release to be in mid or late 2022.
What is Game of Thrones prequel series about?
The House of the Dragon has been set three decades before the events of the Game of Thrones. The series revolves around a turbulent period in the House Targaryen, which has a dragon against dragon and sibling against sibling. The main question is, who should rule on the Iron throne? According to Martin, one of the showrunners, fans can get a glimpse of what the show is about by reading a copy of the anthology by Dangerous Women and Rogues as well as Archmaester Glydayn’s history, Fire and Blood. Interestingly, the novel Fire and Blood is the first in a two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.
Game of Thrones Prequel Series Cast:
We know that Martin and Ryan Condol will serve as the co-creators of this Game of Thrones Prequel series. Sources have also indicated that casting has begun, but the cast has not yet been revealed. Fans have been wondering about the Targaryens that will be appearing in the series. Many expect that key roles will be taken by King Viserys 1, Queen Alicent Hightower, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Aegon II Targaryen. These are just predictions since the official cast has not yet been confirmed. George R.R. Martin will also be involved in the series, but this will be after he is done writing his 6th book that inspired the Game of Thrones series.
Where will House of Dragons be set?
In one of his blog posts, Martin revealed that the prequel series would revisit some of the Game of Thrones’ iconic shooting locations. So, we should expect locations such as Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, Croatia, Morocco, Malta, and Spain.
