Casey Neistat was born in Connecticut on March 25, 1981. He was 17 and didn’t come back from high school. In 1998, when he was 17, he left his home with his family and had his first child, his son, Owen, with then friend Robin Harris. Three of them breathed in a trailer park up to the age of 20. By 2001, after Robin allegedly left him, Neistat took over and moved to New York City. He started working on movies about sculptures with his brother, Van, later working together with artist Tom Sachs.

Neistat and his brother started running with artist Tom Sachs in 2001 and finally produced several films about the artist’s sculptures and installations.
