High school career:

Thomas played basketball at Bishop Kearney high school; During his sophomore, he led the team to a 17–8 record, the New York Federation Tournament of Champions, and the 2013 New York Class AA Tournament crown. Further, during the 2014 school year, he transferred to Huntington Prep School (Huntington, West Virginia). As a junior, Thomas averaged 12.9 rebounds, 13.9 points, and 2.8 blocks per game. Professional career:

On 22nd June 2017, the Utah Jazz drafted Thomas in the 2017 NBA draft as 42nd overall. Later he was traded with Josh Hart to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Tony Bradley. On 30th July 2017, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Lakers, and on 30th June 2018, the Lakers waived him.

Further, the Lakers assigned Thomas to the South Bay Lakers (their G League affiliate). For the 2017–18 season, he was named to the All-NBA G League 1st Team.

On 2nd July 2018, Thomas was claimed by the Washington Wizards as off waivers.
