Trevor Noah (born February 20, 1984) is a South African comedian, political commentator, and television host. He is best known for hosting The Daily Show, an American satirical news program on Comedy Central.
Trevor Noah Early Life:
Noah was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, a black Xhosa woman, and Robert Noah, a white Swiss-German man. His mother was a domestic worker, and his father ran a fridge repair business.
Trevor was born during apartheid in South Africa, which legally enforced racial segregation. By law, Noah could have been classified as “Coloured” because he had a white father and a black mother. However, his parents chose instead to have him classified as “Black” because they felt that was the more realistic reflection of his life experience.
As a child, Noah experienced racial discrimination and violence firsthand. He has said that he was once attacked by a group of white children who threw rocks at him and called him a “kaffir”, a derogatory term for a black person. He also witnessed his mother being arrested by the police on several occasions.
Despite the violence and discrimination he faced, Noah said he was “lucky” to grow up in South Africa during apartheid because it made him aware of race and taught him how to see the world from multiple perspectives.
