Rob was chosen in the second round of the NFL Draft by the New England Patriots in 2010. He agreed to a four-year deal on July 25 for $4.4 million, including a $1.76 million signing bonus. His outstanding play throughout his first campaign earned him 3 nominations for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. His first touchdown reception came in their first victory over the Miami Dolphins, which marked a strong start to his second season. Rob was leading all tight ends with a total of 10 touchdowns by the eleventh week.
He broke the NFL tight end record for touchdowns scored in a season during the Patriots’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He broke all prior marks and finished the season with 1,327 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns.

At the age of 29, Gronkowski announced his retirement on March 24, citing the toll his many injuries had taken on his mental health, and claimed that while he could still play physically, he would no longer enjoy it. A year later, the Patriots traded his rights to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he once again saw Tom Brady, the former Patriots quarterback.
When the Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl LV, Brady and Gronkowski set a record for the most postseason touchdowns by a quarterback and receiver with 14. Gronkowski renewed his one-year contract with the Buccaneers in 2021.
