Mark Shields, (nee May 25, 1937, Weymouth, Massachusetts, U.S.), the American political journalist and television analyst who is better known as a political expert on the Cable News Network (CNN) show Capital Gang, broadcast from 1988 to 2005. (PBS).

In 1964 he relocated to Washington in D.C. after serving in the Marine Corps, and then became a conference assistant and then a campaign worker in the White House campaign of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. Shields managed or worked around the country for 11 years for many democratic political campaigns.

He was a unionized columnist one year later and soon started working on the radio and giving nightly analysis on the Look at Today (American Broadcasting Company). In the early and mid-1980s, Shields’s TV presence grew increasingly prevalent. By the end of this decade, Shield had joined PBS’s The NewsHour in 1987 and CNN’s Capital Gang in 1988 as a full-time TV journalist. He was a well-known NBC (National Broadcasting Company) and CBS election commentator.
