Kelsey Turner Signs Plea Deal In Murder Of Boyfriend Thomas Burchard
A former Playboy model and Las Vegas real estate agent is accused of murder after police said she fatally shot a man, Thomas Burchard, she was living with in southern Nevada.
Kelsey Turner, 29, was arrested Monday in Stockton, California, about 90 miles east of San Francisco. She is awaiting extradition to Clark County, Nevada, where she faces a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.
Turner is accused of killing 71-year-old Gerrit Jan van der Merwe at his home in Boulder City on March 1. His body was found wrapped in a sheet inside a shallow grave in the desert outside Las Vegas, police said.
Van der Merwe’s cause of death has not been released, but authorities have said he suffered “significant blunt force trauma.”
Turner had been living with van der Merwe for several months, and his family told police they were concerned for his welfare, according to a police report.
Witnesses told investigators that Turner had been arguing with van der Merwe the days before his death, and one person said she saw her hit him in the head with a baseball bat, the report said.
Turner’s bail has been set at $1 million. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf. If convicted, she faces up to life in prison.
