In high school, Hendon passed for 6,027 yards, along with 55 and 48 touchdowns, and rushed for 2,975 yards. He was famous as Dudley’s all-time passing leader and earned NC Preps’ All-State Player of the Year; in addition, he was also named twice to the Associated Press All-State team. Under Hendon’s leadership, his school won 2 state championships, and he was awarded the championship MVP (2016) along with 6 touchdowns. In 2019, Hendon was named the starter after their current quarterback Ryan Willis scored 7 turnovers in 4 games. After the Virginia Tech Hokies started with 2 wins and 2 losses, Hendon won 5 games he played, allowing the team to be eligible for a bowl game. On Saturday night, Quarterback Hendon Hooker suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the match where Volunteers’ 63-38 loss to South Carolina. The school made this announcement on Sunday.
Hendon, who was a leading player for the Heisman Trophy for much of the season, in the fourth quarter suffered the injury. After the injury, he has an uncertain path toward the NFL, as his age could be a factor in his evaluation. In January, Hendon will be completing 25 years. But before the injury, his draft stock had been on the rise and maybe even in the top-50 picture overall.
Hendon might not be able to do much in a physical workout, and his ACL tear may take time leading up to next April’s draft. In addition, the injury also adds one more concern for evaluators when selecting a talented player.
