Amazon has given the green light to a TV adaptation of the popular 1999 film Cruel Intentions, which has been developing since 2021. The eight-episode series is set to take place in Washington D.C. and is being developed by writers Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, as well as Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios, and Original Film.
Originally planned to air on Amazon’s free streaming service, Freevee, sources say there’s a possibility that the series could end up on Amazon’s Prime Video service instead. As of April 2023, there’s still no specific release date for the Cruel Intentions TV series. We don’t know when exactly it will be available, unfortunately. Neal H. Moritz, the producer of the first three “Cruel Intentions” movies under his Original Film production company, was originally set to be an executive producer of the new TV series alongside Pavun Shetty. Both Moritz and Shetty were executive producers of the pilot episode for NBC. The reimagined series will be written and executive produced by Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman.
Andrea Iervolino, Monica Bacardi of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, and Bruce Mellon are also attached to executive produce the series.
