Netflix has adapted August Wilson’s play The Piano Lesson, and the success of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom may have contributed to the upcoming series. MA Rainey did extremely well and bagged two Oscars after its release in 2021. They recently featured the upcoming show on Broadway and had Samuel L Jackson and John David Washington star. Washington will be directing the upcoming show alongside Virgil Williams.
The show focuses on the Great Depression’s aftermath in 1936 Pittsburgh when one of the Family members of the Charles family wants to auction off the family’s most prized possession. Here is everything we know about the upcoming season, from its release date to its trailer.
The Piano Lesson Season 1 Release Date: When will it air?
Netflix is yet to announce the specific date of when the Piano Lesson series will be premiering. We expect filming to start in April, and the series might be available before the year ends. If filming takes longer than expected, expect the show to be released in the first half of 2023.
The Piano Lesson Season 1 Plot: What will Happen?
The center of the narrative is the intricately carved piano, sitting unused and gathering dust in the Bernice Charles Home parlor in Pittsburgh, despite the piano being one of the most prized possessions in the Charles family. It has some bitter-sweet memories, a reminder of the hard work that went into gaining the piano. When Willie, Bernice’s cheerful brother, arrives, he plans to sell the piano to buy the same land in Mississippi where his ancestors worked as enslaved people.
However, Bernice is uncomfortable with the idea, as it will mean losing the only possession, reminding them of their history and struggle before brighter days.
The Piano Lesson Season 1 Cast: Who Can be in it?
Samuel L Jackson and John David Washington will star in the upcoming series. Washington had initially worked in She’s Gotta Have It, the Netflix series. Once again, he will adapt the show and write it alongside Virgil Williams, the Academy Award Nominee. Besides being a producer, William has penned the scripts for some of the acclaimed series, including 24, Criminal Minds, and Mud Bound.
William and Washington, being the series protagonist, won’t be the first collaboration as the two are known for starring in the Broadway series. They did 124 regular performances and 27 previews, pushing the Piano Lesson to be one of the highest-grossing revivals. We believe more casting updates will be given as the development progresses.
The Piano Lesson Season 1 Trailer: When can we watch it?
As of April 2023, a trailer of the Piano Lesson series is yet to be released; it will not be coming out anytime soon. The show is still in its development stage. Filming and photography of the series are yet to start, but photography was rumored to begin sometime in April. If it did or does before May, then there are chances we may get to see the series trailer before the year ends.
