Amidst the competition between the DC Extended Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony is developing its own fictional Universe with Marvel’s characters. Marvel was already famous, but the success of its cinematic adaptations has skyrocketed its popularity this decade. Sony is exploring the untapped stories from the comics, and Morbius is an example of the continuation of that approach.

Morbius Release date: When is it hitting the screens?

The filming was initiated in February 2019; Leto took to Twitter to inform the fans. Leto and Matt Smith were spotted in Manchester, and then production shifted to Atlanta. The filming was wrapped up in May 2019. Morbius was supposed to release on 31st July 2020, but it was also affected drastically by the COVID-19 pandemic, just like other productions. The film has been pushed to the next year. It is planned to come in cinemas on 19th March 2021. But now it is shifted, will release on 21 January 2022. This is the release date as of now, but there is a possibility that this could also be pushed back again. Many Marvel movies, including Eternals, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, have been shifted to next year.

Morbius Cast: Who is in it?

Sony is gonna pull both the DC and Marvel fans; Jared Leto, who played Joker in Suicide Squad, will appear as the vampire superhero. Leto’s performance was not loved as much as Leto might have expected, and later, Joaquin Phoenix totally overshadowed him. This is the chance for Leto to impress the viewers with his skills.

Adria Arjona will play Morbius’ fiancé, Martine Bancroft. She is known for her performance in Good Omens, 6 Underground, and Pacific Rim: Uprising. Loxias Crown, the movie’s main antagonist, will be played by Matt Smith; he played Prince Philip in The Crown. We will have Foundation season 1 star – Jared Harris playing Morbius’ mentor, and Tyrese Gibson will play Simon Stroud. There have been rumors that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in the movie, but that is highly unlikely to happen.

Morbius is actually a blend of Marvel and DC, Sony has taken the characters and the basic story from Marvel, and the depiction of a darker anti-hero is very much like that of DC. The story is about Michael Morbius, born and raised in Greece in an isolated atmosphere because of his rare blood condition. His condition turned him ugly, but he was intellectually gifted and tried to cure himself. His attempt to cure himself with bats’ body fluid didn’t work and turned him into a blood-sucking vampire.

He is not a typical Dracula type monster; he is a superhero who feeds only on criminals’ blood. He is like a vigilante; Marvel fans know that he fought X-Men and Spider-Man in the comics but that happening in the movie is very unlikely.

Yes, Sony dropped a teaser trailer in January 2020. This was released, keeping in mind the release in July 2020, but since it has been shifted now, fans have to wait for a long time for a second trailer.
