Series inspired by Real life scenarios have to be the most moving genre, and Netflix is not slacking on adding to its collection anytime soon. Coming to the screens is the new series The Swimmers, a show that highlights the real-life events of the sister swimmers Yusra and Sarah Mardini.
Directed by Sally El Hosaini, the series explores the struggles the two sisters underwent while escaping from Syria, their adventures, and how they finally made a beautiful story out of their misfortunes. Yusra, one of the sisters, competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics as part of the Refugee Olympic Team, proving to all the refugees that they can make their dreams come true irrespective of their story. The Swimmers Season 1 Release Date: When will it air?
The long wait is finally over, and the Swimmers series will make its way to our screen sooner than we expected. The series will premiere in some Cinemas starting on November 11 but will officially launch on Netflix on November 23, 2022.
Its first premiere was in Toronto at the Toronto Film Festival, which occurred on September 8. Sally El Hosaini expressed that TIFF was the perfect place to launch the series as it elevates the refugees’ voices and reminds them that human beings are strong enough to survive.
The Swimmers Season 1 Plot: What can happen next?
The series plot explore the lives of two young girls who flee their hometown in Syria to survive. When the two sister’s house is ravaged and destroyed during the civil war, they no longer have nowhere to call home and family and have to look for other means to survive before they end up dead.
The two are set on a journey to Lebanon, then proceed to Turkey then eventually get into Greece illegally. However, this does not go as planned as they are thrown in the middle of the Aegean seas, and the two are forced to fight for their lives as they save the other passengers from dying in the freezing waters.
The Swimmers Season 1 Cast: Who will be in?
The series plot features two biological sisters, Manal Issa and Nathalie Issa. Manal will be playing Sara, while Nathalie will portray Yusra. It is, however, not the first time the two sisters are coming on Screen as Manal is renowned for playing Lina in the Parisienne movie and also featuring in The Anger series;
The Anger series revolved around a young Lebanese girl who escapes home to get herself involved in a romantic relationship. Her sister Nathalie has also starred in My Favorite Fabric, a Syrian series. Other actors include James Krishna Floyd, Mathias Schweighofer as Sven, the swim Coach, Ahmed Malek as Nizar (a refugee), Carlotta Gregori, Victoria Valcheva, Brigitta Roy, and Alfredo Tavares.
The Swimmers Season 1 Trailer: When can we watch it?
Fortunately, a trailer for the swimmers season 1 has already been released, and you can check it out on Netflix or Youtube. The trailer was released just before the series premiered before the Toronto Festival, giving a good sneak peek of what to expect when the series releases. The series trailer starts with the two sisters on a boat in tumultuous seas, then progresses to the two drownings. It also shows the challenges the two have to undergo to come out alive. Also, mark your calendars for November 11, when the series will debut.
