Who does not love a reasonable romantic period drama? Not me, and after watching the Empress season one, my mind was fixated on whether Sisi will be coming back for the second season of the show. If you have not watched the series, The Empress is a period drama series that Netflix recently released.
The series takes us back to 1854 when a woman with no respect for society’s norms gets married to the emperor, and suddenly she can feel the weight of the disgusted smiles of the community crushing her shoulders.
While Netflix is yet to give us updates on when the series is coming back for the second season, we know it is only a matter of time till we have answers on the cliffhanger the first season left us with. The following is everything we know about the show’s second season.
The Empress Season 2 Release Date:
Unfortunately, Netflix has yet to give us a precise date of when The Empress series will make its second debut. Regarding the series renewal based on rating, The Empress has bagged an impressive 7.9/10 on IMDB, which already assures the second season. The show has also had a vast viewership with positive critics, and there is no doubt the series renewal update will soon be declared. The series is less than a month old since it got released and with such popularity, expect the second season of The Empress before 2023.
The Empress Season 2 Plot:
Season one ended with Elisabeth being confined in the palace walls amidst claims of not upholding the royal protocols. The only thing Elisabeth did wrong was to give a young girl her shoes, but since she is regal, she is not supposed to show compassion. Feeling dejected, she joins Franz’s brother Maximillian and drinks her sorrows away, creating a dent in her ruined reputation.
Archduchess Sophia, who is already tired of Elisabeth, proposes for Elisabeth to go home, to which she willingly agrees. However, before Elisabeth leaves, she discovers she is pregnant and feels hopeless and alone. While leaving the palace amidst the crowd that wants to denounce the Emperor, Elisabeth announces to them that she is with a child. The second season could explore the implications of Elisabeth’s rush decision and the future of Franz as an Emperor.
The Empress Season 2 Cast:
If The Empress returns for the second season, you should expect all of the cast to be back and reprising their roles. Devrim Lingnau will be back to play the Beloved Empress, Elisabeth. Expect her to be joined by Phillip Froissant, who plays Franz Joseph; the emperor, Melika Foroutan (Tribes of Europa) as Sophia; Elisa Schlott as Helen; Johannes Nussbaum as Archduke Maximilian. A trailer for the Empress Season two will not be coming out anytime soon. It is barely a month since the series was released, and we do not know whether it will get a renewal. Filming is also yet to start, so there is no possibility of a second season. If you did not watch the show’s first season, you could do so on Netflix.
