Netflix has opted to cancel Messiah’s production after season one due to its religious controversies. The CIA thriller stars Michelle Monaghan as Agent Eva Geller, who is faced with investigating a mysterious man popularly known as Al-Masih. Al-Masil (Mehdi Dehbi) proclaimed he was sent to earth by higher powers to save mankind.
These plots to control mankind began to draw international organizations’ interest when their followers began to cause chaos as a result of their beliefs. Agent Eva is then faced with the task of discovering if he is as divine as he says or just another con artist trying to gain the attention of the world.
Messiah Season 2 Cancelled: What are the reasons behind cancelling it?
Messiah fans, I have bad news for you. Netflix has confirmed that the show will not return for a second season. We just got word from Netflix that there will be no Messiah season 2.
The news of this production’s cancellation was made public by a cast Wil Traval who revealed on his Instagram handle.
This is an indication that Messiah was not concluded in the first season; neither was its production held back but was cancelled. It features an international cast and is shot in multiple locations around the world. Aside from the religious controversies associated with the cancellation, the film’s multi-location setting would be very challenging and almost impossible to pull off due to this pandemic. The Messiah trailer faced a lot of negative reactions over the character Al-Masih.
The name Al-Masih is closely connected to Al-Masih ad-Dajjal, an evil figure in Islamic eschatology. He was known as a false Messiah, a liar, and a deceiver. This point alone made this movie seem like a direct target towards Islam. Although the Netflix representative, in her speech to the press, claimed Messiah was and still is totally born out of imagination and creativity, this proof makes it a little hard to believe.
This name caused a lot of negative reactions, which prompted a petition for a name change with over 4,000 signatures in agreement. The request by the Royal film commission of Jordan to not air the movie in Muslim countries two days before its debut only increased the uproar of many religious bodies.
However, if conditions become favorable for Season 2, we should see it on December 2023, similar time of Season 1 release. There have been some petitions going on Twitter on this and we are hoping for positive returns.

Although season one would be the last we would see of this movie, there were lots of people who worked tirelessly to make it a major hit. They include; Michelle Monaghan, Tomer Sisley, John Ortiz, Melina Page Hamilton, Stefania Lavie Owen (Sweet Tooth Season 2), Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, and Fares Landoulsi. Their efforts to bring this work to life are highly commendable.

Messiah Season 2 Storyline:
The show revolves around Al-Masih, the story’s central character. It began in Syria and progressed to Al-Masih, a self-proclaimed prophet. As he constructs his gateway from the Middle East to the United States. As a result, the number of followers on the road is growing. As Al-Masih manipulates and performs miracles in order to dazzle the rest of the world.
In this way, there’s also Eva Geller, a CIA agent on the lookout for the truth. Aviram, an Israeli agent, is also involved in the investigation in the series. In the end, the story does not provide a satisfying and conclusive conclusion. This causes unhappiness among the series’ viewers. Season 2 is unfortunately no longer possible due to its official cancellation.
Messiah Season 1 Recap:
In the first episode, we are introduced to a young boy named Jibril who wakes up from a nightmare and is comforted by his mother. We then flash-forward in time where we see Jibril now grown-up as he deals with an explosion which has just killed his mother. A news segment explains that the city of Damascus in Syria has been under attack and siege by the ISIS caliphate.
We then cut to a man preaching to the crowd of refugees claiming that God will save them all while we see an enormous sandstorm approaching the city. This prompts the crowd, including Jibril, to scatter as the preacher stays where he is. A month later, we find out that the storm lasted a month and buried the ISIS force, making them retreat from Damascus and freeing the city from their threat as their supply coming from other countries is cut.
Throughout the season, Eva continues her investigation into Al-Masih while he continues to perform “miracles” and attract more followers.
