Netflix Canceled Shows

Netflix is all set on top for having amazing content on our plate, but here are all the Netflix shows (from The Umbrella Academy to The Crown and beyond) that will leave in 2023. And so the cycle restarts. Like any good thing, Netflix can be taken away at any time. And 2023 is forming up to be a banner year for some of our favorite TV shows in terms of new episodes and farewell seasons. While Netflix originals like Outer Banks, You, and Heartstopper are set to return in 2023, some critically acclaimed series are saying their final goodbyes in the coming months.

On top of that, there will most likely be many victims of premature cancellations. Netflix has already confirmed the cancellation of one show. We’ve compiled a list of all the Netflix shows canceled so far in 2023, as well as those ending their run on the service this year.

10. 1899

Director:Jantje Friese, Baran bo Odar
Genre:Mystery, Horror fiction
Cast:Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard

In 2023, Netflix’s “One Season Curse” claimed its first victim: the international mystery thriller series 1899. There were some excellent reviews, and the show even made it into the Top 10 on the streaming service’s charts not long after its November 2022 premiere. However, the show was not picked up for a second season. Bo Odar tweeted in response to the cancellation announcement: “We regret that 1899 will not return for a second season. Like with Dark, we wish we could have finished this amazing trip with two more seasons. Yet, outcomes aren’t always predictable.”

9. Dead End: Paranormal Park

Director:Liz Whitaker
Genre:Animated
Cast:Zach Barack, Alex Brightman

Dead End: Paranormal Park, an animated series on Netflix, was axed after two seasons in January. Author Hamish Steele made the following proclamation in a statement: “As you may imagine, we hoped this would never happen. During Season 3, we even held a writers’ room. We are prepared to proceed with screenplays, designs, and rough draughts. As such, it was always intended to provide a satisfying conclusion for these individuals.

8. Inside Job

Director:Shion Takeuchi
Genre:The workplace comedy
Cast:Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater

Netflix quietly ended season one of the animated comedy in January. Creator Shion Takeuchi tweeted the show’s cancellation: “Sadly, but Season 2 of Inside Job has been canceled by Netflix. These fictional people have developed into real people over the years, and I will be deeply saddened to miss out on their maturation. As an extension, she said, “Thanks for tuning in, audience members. I’m sorry, but it makes me feel better to know that others share my enthusiasm for these characters.”

7. Uncoupled

Director:Darren Star
Genre:Romantic comedy-drama
Cast:Neil Patrick Harris, Tuc Watkins

After only one season, Netflix decided to pull the plug on the Neil Patrick Harris-starring show in January 2023. The delightful romantic comedy only aired for eight episodes before being discontinued. After debuting in the Top 10 in the week of its July 2022 release, Uncoupled quickly fell out of the chart’s spotlight. The series follows Neil Patrick Harris as he attempts to reenter the dating scene as a gay man in Manhattan 17 years after being rejected by his long-term spouse.

6. The Chair

Director:Amanda Peet, Annie Julia Wyman
Genre:Comedy
Cast:Sandra Oh, Jay Duplass

A second season of The Chair has officially been canceled. Moreover, Sandra Oh was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021 thanks in large part to the program, which examines prejudice of all kinds, including ageism, sexism, and others and has an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 86%.

5. Juvenile Justice

Director:Hong Jong-chan
Genre:Legal Drama
Cast:Kim Hye-soo, Kim Mu-yeol

A second season of the K-drama series Juvenile Justice was reportedly developing. However, it was canceled in the pre-production phase, according to a report published toward the end of January 2023. The plot of Juvenile Justice centers on Shim Eun-Seok, an elite judge with a cold and aloof disposition who is notorious for her hate of minors and appointment to a juvenile court in the Yeonhwa District.

4. Hot Skull

Director:Mert Baykal
Genre:Sci-Fic
Cast:Osman Sonant, Şevket Çoruh

We were looking forward to the Turkish sci-fi series on Netflix that was very much like Bird Box, but unhappily, despite its success in Turkey, one of the performers said there won’t be any more seasons. Hot Skull has a good chance of becoming a Netflix smash in the coming day’s thanks to the growing demand for international content. The show manages to make something fresh and compelling out of tired old material.

3. Super Crooks (Season 2)

Director:Motonobu Hori
Genre:Japanese-American superhero
Cast:Jonah Scott, Mezi Atwood

Coming to Super Crooks, Netflix has not yet said whether or not they will be renewing “Super Crooks” for a second season. On November 25, 2021, the first episode of the anime’s first season debuted. The live-action series ‘Jupiter’s Legacy,’ which lasted only one season, shares continuity with the anime ‘Super Crooks.’ The final three episodes of Season 1 faithfully adapted the complete storyline of the comics. As the first season of ‘Super Crooks’ is a direct prequel to the live-action ‘Jupiter’s Legacy,’ there are still plenty of stories to explore in the second season.

2. Super PupZ (Season 2)

Director:Robert Vince
Genre:Comedy
Cast:David Foley, Harland Williams, Davide Fair

The children’s comedy series exudes an especially upbeat atmosphere, with all the kids and puppies plotting to rescue Zeta and get revenge on the observatory’s harsh operators. The show’s fundamental themes—friendship, human relationships with animals, and young people’s influence in today’s society—should be standard fare in children’s television.

1. The Chestnut Man (Season 2)

Director:Kasper Barfoed
Genre:Drama
Cast:David Dencik, Danica Curcic

As a part of Netflix’s Nordic output, the Danish Nordic Noir series The Chestnut Man is a shining example of the genre. The show replaces the typical somber colors of the genre with an almost unreasonably beautiful backdrop of vivid fall colors, adding to the unsettling nature of the dolls, missing limbs, and riveting murder investigations featured prominently throughout. But sadly, it will not return for the third season.
