The first sequel rumor came in 2002 when Entertainment Weekly reported that the series sequel was in development.
However, the series writer John Hughes was not interested; therefore, it did not come to pass. Selena will talk only about inspiration from the 1984 series and creating a different program altogether. Her series will be named the 15 candles and focus on four teenagers and their quinceaneras.
