The French Dispatch Plot: What is it all about?
Wes Anderson is a big fan of the American magazine, The New Yorker. Some of the events and characters in the movie are from real-life counterparts from the magazine. Anderson stated that the story is not easy to explain; he added that it is about an American journalist based in France, it is about the fight of this man who wants to write whatever he likes. Even though it is not a movie about the press’s freedom, the film definitely shows what’s going on in the real world.
One of the main storylines is based on Events in “May: A Paris Notebook,” an article written by Mavis Gallant. Some parts are also taken from “The Days of Duveen.”
