The eighth episode of Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club is titled “Kristy and the Baby Parade.” In this finale, Kristy assists her mother in packing and discarding old clothes before the focus switches to the main drama of the chapter. Watson considers going on a trip to New Zealand, but when he doesn’t receive much of a response, he shifts his attention to the upcoming baby parade in town. This parade has been a long-standing tradition in the town, dating back to World War II. Interestingly, Watson himself won the 1973 edition and now he wants to help Kristy win it this year. Claudia and the others discover his plan and decide to enter a float of their own.
Kristy and her siblings learn that their father has returned to town, accompanied by his new partner and baby. They believe that the parade is the perfect opportunity to meet up with him, prompting Kristy to prepare herself to meet her birth father. She is genuinely excited, as is David, who starts creating a new photo album for him. However, Sam is unhappy about this and storms off.
Unfortunately, the babysitters encounter some difficulties while working on their float. The shoe they made are the wrong color due to spilled paint, and the structure is not sturdy enough to hold the baby seats. Additionally, there are problems with the design of the babies’ costumes, with Mallory’s color choice clashing with the others. However, Claudia comes to the rescue with her own stylish design.
Just as everything seems to be heading toward a disaster, Kristy and the group receive disappointing news when their father decides not to see them. After getting their hopes up, this rejection is too much for Watson to bear. He expresses his frustration with this cowardly act, and even Mary Anne supports him. Instead, Watson decides on the next best thing – he wants to become Kristy’s real dad by adopting her. With an adoption on the horizon, the parade goes off without a hitch, and Claudia manages to honor Mimi’s memory by winning the costume contest.
