The drug crime thriller, Queen of the South, was renewed for a fifth season when the last season ended. The show by USA Network, which premiered in June 2016, has seen high viewership and ratings while also getting awards. With an average of over a million viewers, the show has been rated by Rotten Tomatoes with 68% from 19 reviewers, while Metacritic delivered a 59% rating. Queen of the South won the 2017 Imagen Awards for Best Primetime Television Series for Drama, Best Supporting Actor in Television, and 2018 WIN Awards for Film or Show Written By a Woman. The TV show is based on its Spanish serial counterpart “La Reina del Sur.” Both are based on the Spanish novel La Reina del Sur by Arturo Perez-Reverte.

Queen of the South Season 5 Cast: Who will be the part of it?
All the main cast members are expected to return in the fifth season. First of all,
- Teresa Mendoza is played by Alice Braga (We Are Who We Are Season 2).
- Also is Peter Gadiot, playing the role of James Valdez, Camilla’s right-hand man.
- Hemky Madera stars as Pote Galvez, one of Teresa’s allies.
- Molly Burnett features the role of Kelly Anne Van Awken.
- Joseph T. Campos plays the role of Boaz Jimenez.
- Ryan O’Nan as King George.
- Alejandro Barrios as Chicho.
- Also present will be Nick Sagar (Run The World), who acts as Alonzo Loya, a DEA agent.
Other cast members include Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8), David Andrews (World War Z), Alimi Ballard (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Sofia Lama (Eva La Trailera), Chelsea Tavares (Make it or Break it), and Bailey Chase (Longmire).
One cast member who will not return is Julian Silva, whose character Tony Parts was killed off in an explosion last season.
Queen of the South Season 5 Release Date: When will air?
The show’s fifth season should have been released, but the lockdown restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic have halted production indefinitely since March 2020. However, following the previous season, which premieres in June each year. Queen of the South season 5 has aired for fans on April 7, 2022. This season concluded its fifth season on June 9, 2021, on USA Network.
Queen of the South Season 5 Plot: What will happen next?
As earlier mentioned, the TV show is premised on the telenovela and Spanish novel La Reina del Sur, which tells the story of Teresa Mendoza, an impoverished woman from Jalisco, Mexico. She falls in love with a drug runner, who was murdered. After this, she flees into the United States, joined forces with other people with similar interests to defeat the drug lord after her. Succeeding, she forms her own drug cartel and is financially stable.
Season four ended on show James telling the crew that the Russians are coming. Therefore we expect in season five to see more plot lines, including Russians and the DEA. We hope to see how Teresa will overcome the challenges in the coming season.
