Matthew Stafford is an American based footballer; he plays as a quarterback for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams. Matthew played his college football at The University of Georgia and was a first-team All-American. Further, in the 2009 NFL Draft, he was selected 1st overall by the Detroit Lions. Ranking in the top 20 in pass attempts, passing yards, completions, and passing touchdowns, Matthew is 4th in all-time passing yards per game and also the fastest NFL player to hit 40,000 passing yards.
From 2009 to 2020, Matthew played for the Lions as a primary starter. In 2011, he had a breakout season when he became the 4th NFL quarterback to throw for above 5,000 yards in a single season and also led the Lions to their 1st playoff appearance since 1999. Further, in 2014 and 2016, Matthew led the Lions again to 2 further postseason runs, earning Pro Bowl honors. In 2021, Matthew mutually agreed to part ways with the Lions and was traded to the Rams, leading them to victory in Super Bowl LVI.
Will Matthew Stafford’s Spinal Cord Injury End His NFL Career?
With Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (34) on reserve injury, fans are concerned that he might not be ready to play the following season.
On Friday, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has some fears that Matthew may take time to recover. While speaking to the media, Sean said that the spinal cord contusion Matthew suffered would not need any invasive procedure. He also added that Matthew has “a healthy offseason” and should be ready for the next season.
The 2022 season for Matthew ends as one of the least efficient of his otherwise athletic career. This year’s season, he had his lowest yards per game total and a career-low 3.3-percent touchdown rate.
The Rams owe Matthew, as he is under contract for the next three years. But if Matthew is already declined, the Rams might be forced to search for other options at quarterback. Unfortunately, they don’t have any high draft picks to get a top prospect.
The Rams might be in the market if Matthew isn’t as healthy. They may turn to another player next year; otherwise, who will be the Rams’ starter for the 2023 season?
