The Big Bang Theory spinoff has gotten the nod for the seventh season; created by Chuck Lorre (Mom) and Steven Molaro, the prequel has received numerous praise from the audience since it premiered in September 2017. However, the highly successful series has been getting lower ratings than the previous seasons.
Season 3 got an average of 1.05 in the 18-49 age demographic and an average of 8.71 million viewers per episode, less than season 2’s rating of 1.71 in the same demographic range and an average number of viewers of 11.14 million per episode. Season two and three both fall below season one’s rating of 2.21 and an average of 12.51 million viewers per episode. Despite this fact, Young Sheldon remains CBS’s top scripted TV show.
Young Sheldon’s fifth season has an average of 7.12 million viewers and a 0.70 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In the live+same day ratings, that’s a drop of 8% in the demo and 1% in viewership when compared to season four. While these figures do not account for additional delayed or streamed viewing, they are a good estimate of how well a show is doing, particularly when compared to others on the same channel.
Other economic considerations may play a role in a show’s fate, but higher-rated series are more likely to be renewed, while lower-rated shows are more likely to be terminated. Check out how Young Sheldon compares to other CBS series.
