The year 2016 saw many important world events. While some received a warm welcome, some were not quite pleasant. Here is a compilation of the 2016 world events that had created a stir and dominated the world’s attention in 2016.
1.NASA’s Juno Craft Reached Jupiter
Juno was built by Lockheed Martin. It is operated by NASA and it was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on August 5 ,2011. Juno spacecraft reached Jupiter successfully on July 2016. Juno mission measures and helps to learn more about planet origin, structure and atmosphere .It also investigate the unknowns Jupiter’s massive radiation belt to examine into not only the planet’s interior, but into how Jupiter was born and how our entire solar system evolved.”
2. Transit of Mercury
The Transit of Mercury happened on May 9, 2016. A transit occurs when mercury passes directly in front of the sun. Mercury has been seen through telescopes with solar filters. It looks like a small black dot crossed the sun’s face. The entire transit of mercury is visible in eastern North America, Western Europe and western Africa. The last transit of Mercury occurred on November 15, 1999. It was not visible from Europe. The last visible of transit from Europe occurred on November 10, 1973.
3. Egypt Air Flight 804 Crash
EgyptAir Flight 804 (MS804/MSR804) is an international flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Cairo International Airport. The flight got crashed on 19 May 2016 into the Mediterranean Sea. The flight 804 crash was assumed to be linked with insurgency and terrorism in the region. On June 29, Egyptian officials announced that flight data recorder data indicated smoke in the aircraft, and that soot, plus damage from high temperatures was found on some of the wreckage from the front section of the aircraft. As of November 2016, no further explanation is given for the flight crash.
4. Fidel Castro death
Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926. He was a Cuban revolutionary leader and politician. Fidel Castro governed as prime minister from 1959-1976 and then he governed as president from 1976-2008. From 1976-2011 he served as a first secretary of the communist party of Cuba. During his administration, Industry & business were nationalized, and state socialist reforms were implemented throughout society and also Cuba became as a one party socialist state.
5. U.S. Election
US election was held on November 8 2016. It was the 58th quadrennial American presidential election. Republican party ticket of business man Donald Trump and governor of Indiana Mike Pence defeated the Democratic party ticket of the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and and U.S. Senator from Virginia Tim Kaine. Trump wins 30 states with 306 pledged electors out of 538. His victory has been considered unlikely by most media forecasts. Donald trump is the 45th president of America.
6. UEFA Euro Cup
UEFA Euro 2016 was the 15th UEFA European Football Championship. It was organised by UEFA and held in France from June 10 to July 10 2016. Spain own 2008 and 2012 tournaments, but Spain was eliminated in the round of 16 by Italy. The team was selected by UEFA’s 13-strong panel of Technical observers, led by a UEFA Chief Technical officer Ioan Lupescu and also panel includes Sir Alex Ferguson, Alain Giresse, Thomas Schaaf, Jean-Francois Domergue, Gines Melendez, Packie Bonner, Mixu Paatelainen, Savo Milosevic, Peter Rudback and Jean-Paul Brigger. Portugal ranks first and won € 25.5 million.
7. KumbhMela
KumbhMela is held every 12 years in Haridwar, India. The date is determined according to Hindu astrology. The KumbhMela is held when Jupiter enters Aquarius and the sun entered Aries. During the festival the banks of these rivers become a large bathing ground for the all kinds of the sadhus and the women alike. The last KumbhMela at Haridwar took place in 2010.
8. Rio Olympic
Summer Olympic game 2016 is commonly known as “Rio Olympic 2016”. It is an international multi-sport event which occurs every four years interval and organised by the International Olympic Committee. The Rio Olympic game took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hence the 2016 Olympics game is also named as “Rio 2016”. Rio de Janeiro was the first South American city to host the Olympic Game.
9. Military Coup Failed in Turkey
A Military coup has been attempted in Turkey against state institutions, including, but not limited to the government and president of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They attempted to seize the control of key places in Istanbul, Ankara and elsewhere, but failed to so after forces faithful to the state defeat them. The coup failed, resulting in the Turkish parliament and Presidential palace damaged, 22 died in prison, 67 pro-government forces killed.
