The 21st century is called the “digital age” due to the invention of social media. A large part of a man’s life is dominated by the internet or by the things found on social media. But as you try to grapple with this reality, some questions come to mind. How well do your online activities measure up with reality?
The Circle is a reality show that reveals the difference between reality and life on social media. It highlights how social media can have a hold on your identity. The reality show was aired on Netflix in January 2020. The team of Studio Lambert and Motion content group oversaw the production in Manchester, England. Michelle Buteau presented the show.
However, the show has received a fair share of criticism, as some people believe it encourages the contestants not to be their true selves.
The Circle: What is this reality show all about?
The show can be referred to as ‘online Big Brother.’ Aside from the fact it centers on social media, the series shares some similarities with Big Brother. In the show, contestants are kept in the different apartments and are expected to communicate via a customized app called The Circle. They are meant to do this without coming in contact with each other. Each contestant’s goal is to be the most popular in the house, regardless of how they behave. All through the show, the contestants rate each other by vote. The two contestants with the most votes are given blue ticks, which verify their status as influencers. At the same time, the contestant with the lowest vote either gets kicked out of the show or replaced with a new contestant.
