As of March 2023, the series debut has no specific release date. The series is still in its preproduction stage; scripts are being written, casting updates made, and filming locations chosen. If preproduction finishes early, filming will probably start before the year ends. The earliest you should expect to binge on the show’s first season is either in late 2023 or sometime in 2024.

The series is adapted from  The Boy at The End, Adam Silvera’s bestselling novel. The series synopsis describes how Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio are called by Death Cast at midnight in September to give them the terrible news. The two are total strangers meeting for the first time; therefore, their meet-up is a surprise. On arrival, they are given the news of their demise and are to die together on the same day. Since it is their last day, they decide to make friends, and fortunately enough, they have an app to make friends; The Last Friend. Through the app, the two meet up for the last time before they die, and together, they go on an adventure while crossing off items on their bucket list as they wait to die.

As of March 2023, Netflix and the series creators have not given any casting updates. The series is in its preproduction stage, and it will take time before the scripts are written and the official casting updates are released.
