On 21st November 2021, Darrell drove a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the middle of the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, United States; the incident murdered 6 people and injured 62 others. He was arrested and charged with 6 counts of 1st-degree intentional homicide and 70 other charges.
During the aftermath of the ramming, 5 people were killed, and 48 others were injured. The 5 dead were identified as 4 women and 1 man. Further, 4 of the dead were members of a dance group composed solely of grandmothers named the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies.
Hospitals admitted 28 people, of which 9 were in critical condition, and 17 were children among the wounded. 2 days after the incident, the number of people injured increased to 62. Darrell chose to represent himself in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
