That a series that started with a Space Ghost Coast To Coast joke would have similar legs? Aqua Teen Hunger Force was another adult swim series made into a movie and one of the few shows somewhere the characters live on in the adult swim branding. Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks already held a reputation for being a socially conscious and controversial comic strip, and it hasn’t toned things down in the leap to television. While certainly a bittersweet achievement, few shows deserve the title more than Jackson Publick’s riff on the sometimes subtle Johnny Quest, and at other times the drug addict “Johnny” and that looked shockingly similar. The only real drawback is that there have only been seven seasons in that span, but the rest secured, those 81 episodes to date are of the best quality and make the enormous gap between seasons worthwhile.

1. Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty may be the first Adult Swim on this list (starting in 2013), but there is little doubt that it is not worth the original Adult Swim. The series gained tremendous popularity in a short period. Thanks in part to the creators’ creative writing, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and their crew. There may not be as many Emmys as Robot Chicken, but are these two contributing to McDonald’s great PR crisis? Not at all, and while Rick and Morty still have ways to do it before being considered at the same level as The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, it does get close to that field. It could eventually become the most memorable Adult Swim show when the weather forbids, it ends.

Original network:Adult Swim
Original release:Dec 2, 2013 – present
