Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur is an upcoming five-part docuseries that will delve into the life of the celebrated musician Tupac Shakur and Afeni Shakur. The two preached unity, love, and equality, a message that has become more and more relevant as the years go by. The series was announced by FX a while back and is supposed to feature and explore Tupac’s relationship with his mama, Afeni.
The series was inspired by a 1995 classic titled Dear Mama that Shakur released, and it will include five parts series that is expected to premiere on FX and then be available on Hulu for streaming. The Hughes brothers are directing the series as he has all of Tupac’s released and unreleased materials, which he was given legal access to by the Tupac Estate. They will be joined by other directors, namely: Lasse Jarvi, Tom Whalley, Tom Pellegrini, Dr. Dre, Charles King.

So far, we do not know when the series will be released but considering that a trailer was released in May this year, it may be premiering before the year ends. Filming was supposed to begin in 2022, but the Covid 19 pandemic thwarted these plans. Production has, however, resumed, and Allen Hughes, the director, commented that the lockdown was a blessing in disguise. It gave him the necessary personal reflection time and improved the quality of made on-camera interviews.

The series plot will explore Tupac Shakur’s life and relationship with his late mother, Afeni Shakur. Tupac penned a song for his mother, a single hit in 1995 titled dear mother, and the series will get its inspiration from the said song.
From the newly released trailer, Afeni says it has always been her duty to teach Tupac the right ways to love. She adds that when Tupac did something wrong, he had to get the New York times and debate about it. It will also be told through the uncorrupted eyes of the people who knew the two the best. Therefore, it will interview some of the people closest to the two.

The series cast is yet to be announced, but we know some of the artists that will be featured in the show. One of the personalities is Snoop Dog, A famous rapper interviewed in the same room where Tupac lay after being shot. Hughes revealed that he had never seen Snoop devastated about anything other than when he was questioned about Shakur.
Another person is Jasmine, a family friend of the Shakur’s. Tupac went to her house after being shot, and even though she wasn’t a family member, she says that that meant a lot.
