1. Australia’s Highway 1

As Highway 1 is Australia’s coastal road, you will be able to start from anywhere and end up back where you started. This road is over 24,000kms which makes it the longest national highway in the world and as a road trip definitely not for the faint of heart.
Throughout the 24,000 kms the quality of the road varies to a great degree. In most sections it consists of a Dual Carriageway, but in the cities it can be upgraded to a motorway and in some more rural areas it is little more than a dirt track.

 

2. The Trans-Canada Highway


As early as 1910, there were calls for a national road across Canada. The first post of the Canadian Highway was planted in Victoria in 1912. The first successful crossing of Canada by car was in 1912, when Thomas Wilby supplemented existing dirt roads with railway rights of way along the rugged Lake Superior north shore and over the Rocky Mountains. Some sections of the highway were paved early on (for example, Highway 17 in Northern Ontario was paved in 1937), while others had major construction challenges and would require federal support.

3. The Trans-Siberian Highway


This refers to group of several federal highways that extend throughout Russia ranging from the Baltic Sea of the Atlantic Ocean to the Japan Sea of the Pacific Ocean. The route is called the AH6 in Asia. Its length is more than 11,000 kilometers and it extends from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok.

4. Route 6


U.S. Route 6 (US 6), also called the Grand Army of the Republic Highway, a name that honors an American Civil War veterans association, is a main route of the U.S. Highway system, running east-northeast from Bishop, California to Provincetown, Massachusetts. Until 1964, it continued south from Bishop to Long Beach, California, and was a transcontinental route. After U.S. Route 20, it is the second-longest U.S. highway in the United States and the longest continuous highway.

5. 401 or MacDonald Cartier Freeway


The 401 or MacDonald Cartier Freeway starts at the Detroit-Windsor Ambassador Bridge and culminates at the Quebec border near Montreal. The highway lies in the middle of the town though it was built out in the country side originally.

5. Interstate 90 (I-90)


The longest Interstate Highway in the U.S, this highway extends up to 3,099.07 miles (4,987 km). It runs parallel to the U.S Route 20 for the most part. Its eastern terminus is in Boston and western terminus is in Seattle. It crosses the Continental divide just east of Butte, Montana.

6. Interstate 80 (I-80)


The I-80 connects San Francisco to Teaneck, New Jersey. It closely approximates the Lincoln Highway route and traces other important travel pathways such as Oregon Trail, California Trail and the complete route of the First Transcontinental Railroad.

 

8. Pan-American Highway


This highway comprises a network of many highways and stretches from Prudhoe Bay in northern Alaska to the Ushuaia, in Cape Horn, Argentina. The Darien Gap is an 87 kilometre rainforest break. Apart from this the highway is well connected and connects the Americas very well. This highway also passes through several ecological types and diverse climates from cold mountain passes to dense jungles.

9. The Tarim Desert Highway


Tarim Desert Highway 314 from north of the Luntai County Road East, the Lunnan Oilfield, the Tarim River, Xiao Tong, Tajikistan and four oilfields and the Taklimakan Desert, and Khan and the south Minfeng County Road 315 countries connected to the north and south through the Tarim Basin, full-length 522 km, of which flows through the desert of the 446 km long.

10. Highway 409


This highway is in Ontario. The 400-series highways are actually freeways with controlled access which span throughout the southern limits of Ontario in Canada. Highway 409 is actually a short freeway that is used as a traffic bypass for vehicles approaching the airport or Highway 427 since these cannot be reached at the mega interchange between highways 427 and 401. This highway is better known as Belfield Expressway.
