Mauritius ‘Post Office’

The stamps were of two denominations; one penny with the colour of orange-red and two pence of dark blue. The stamp was modelled after the erstwhile British stamps, featuring the profile of Queen Victoria. It was changed to ‘Post Paid’ from the next series. The stamps were brought to attention of collectors by a merchant’s wife in 1864. Only 26 specimens of the stamp are existing now. They are valued at around $4 million

Inverted Head Four Anna’s stamp was the famous Indian stamp. Actually it was a highly valuable error stamp. The creation and appearance are using a blue and white dye to make a design and the rare multi-coloured Indian stamp was printed with an upside-down effigy.

Treskilling Yellow

The rarest postage stamps is occupied by a Swedish stamp named Treskilling Yellow. This stamp once held the world record for the highest price for a single postage stamp in auction. It was sold in a 1996 auction for $2.3 million. In an auction in 2010, it was resold, though the exact price. The three-skilling stamps were printed in blue-green and eight-skilling ones were in yellow.

Sweden issued its first series of stamps featuring the Swedish coat of arms. The denomination was associated with a different color, which sometimes created confusion in the printing houses. Due to a printing error, one of the three skilling stamps appeared on yellowish orange paper meant for the eight skilling stamp of the same set instead of the usual blue-green color used for this denomination.
The exact number of mistakenly printed stamps remains unknown. It is considered to be a one-of-a-kind rarity, as no other copies have been discovered to date. In 1996, the stamp was auctioned to an anonymous collector for $2.3 million.

British Guiana 1c Magenta

A stamp that fetched $9.5 million in a 2014 auction the British Guiana 1c magenta is considered the most valuable and rarest stamp in the world. Only one of its type exists now, which is used and cut in the shape of an octagon.. It features a sailing ship along with the colony’s motto ‘Damus Petimus Que Vicissim’. The stamp has been mentioned in various films as a prized object.

This is the rarest Austrian newspaper stamp and it was created as postage on newspapers. The Mercury stamps depicted the image of the Roman god, and were printed in blue, yellow, and red. The Red Mercury stamps were replaced too soon in 1858. Few copies of very rare stamps have a rare stamp value of $ 40, 000.

Shield, Eagle and Flags

The Shield, Eagle and Flags stamp belongs to the 1869 pictorial issue that included ten stamps worth between 1 and 90 cents. It also marked the first use of bicolour printing. Spelled out in red letters, the denomination number flows over into the blue-framed flags through the red shield. The new technique required double pressing: to print the centre design also known as vignette and to print the frame. While an unused sample with inverted flags is valued at $210,000, a used example costs $65,000.
