The first season of the English will revolve around Cornelia Locke, a woman in the 19th century United States who has lost her son to violence. She enters a dark world where no one is spared from the harshness of the environment or the individuals that reside in it. After her son is killed, she begins a journey to find the man who killed her beloved son. In her mind, the man is responsible for the death of her son and she cannot rest until she has enacted revenge against this individual.

The trailer for the first season of The English was released in early September. In the 46-second clip, Cornelia is seen exploring the vast wilderness of America with a forlorn expression on her face. It is easy to see that she is sad, but an aura of intent comes with her mannerisms. The clip shows the harsh environment that Cornelia has launched herself into; there are aggressive-looking native Americans as well as dead people hanging from ropes or barb wire.
The clip makes it very clear that this journey that Cornelia is undertaking is not for the faint of heart, nor for the weak of body. The place must exert its toll on the individual. From the trailer, it is evident that there will be a huge element of drama and thriller, and it is what we- as the audience, came to see.
