Former quarterback and current head football coach of the Louisville Cardinals, Jeffrey Scott Brohm, is an American football coach. In addition to spending 7 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) between 1994 and 2000 and one season in the XFL in 2001, Brohm played collegiate football at the University of Louisville under head football coach Howard Schnellenberger from 1989 to 1993. Oscar Brohm, Jeff’s father, was a high school football coach and a quarterback at the University of Louisville. Jeff attended Louisville, Kentucky’s Trinity High School. The Montreal Expos chose him in the 7th round of the 1989 MLB Draft after graduating high school, but he opted to play baseball and football at Louisville University instead. Jeff spent his first year as a backup quarterback before the Cleveland Indians made another selection of him in the MLB Draft in the fourth round. When he wasn’t playing football in the summer, Brohm changed his heart and pursued a professional baseball career. After two summers, he decided to give up baseball and concentrate on football.

He led the Cardinals to the 1993 Liberty Bowl during his two seasons as their main quarterback. Before joining the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent, Jeff went undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft; Jeff spent seven seasons as a quarterback in the NFL, including time with the Chargers in 1994, the Redskins in 1995, the 49ers from 1995 to 1997, the Buccaneers in 1998, the Broncos in 1999, and the Browns in 2000. He also spent a season playing with the Orlando Rage of the XFL, where Jeff was selected to the All-XFL team despite having his season disrupted due to a shoulder injury.

Brohm went to the AF2 in 2002, where he led the Louisville Fire as their head coach. In 2003, Brohm went back to the University of Louisville. He worked for the Cardinals for the following six years as their quarterback coach, passing game coordinator, offensive coordinator, and associate head coach. He contributed to their 2007 Orange Bowl victory. In 2009, Brohm transferred to Florida Atlantic University, where he worked as the offensive coordinator alongside Schnellenberger once more. After that, Brohm continued coaching, working as an assistant for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2010-11, at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (2012), and at Western Kentucky University (2013) as an associate head coach, quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator. In 2014, Petrino returned to Louisville, and Brohm was allowed to become the Hilltoppers’ head coach. He led the group to three bowl games as head coach, winning two. In 2016, Jeff Brohm was hired as Purdue University’s head coach, leading the Boilermakers to a 7-6 record in his first campaign.
