Uptown is an upcoming series that will explore the famous Uptown Records. Millenial Music fanatics were shocked when word first came around that the renowned Uptown record founder had died. Harrell founded one of the most successful R&b labels in the 80s and 90s, and news of his death was a blow to most Millenials hip hop and RnB lovers.
He was also famous for contributing to hip-hop music by introducing trends like grimier RnB and the New Jack Swing sound, something all music lovers are still grateful for. Harrell was not only in the music industry but was working on movie shows as the executive producer. By his death, he was producing one of Fox’s drama productions called New York Undercover. Due to his undeniable contributions, the idol is finally getting a series that will explore his uptown records.
Uptown Season 1 Release Date: When will it be out?
The series was initially slated for a 2020 release date, but with the Covid pandemic, the creator had to push the production and the series filming to a later year. They finally decided to start filming in 2021, but this timeline never comes to pass as it is over a year, and we have yet to see the series trailer or teaser.
Andre was supposed to produce the series, but with his death, the series had to go on without him. Many changes have since been made, and the series is more focused on honoring his fantastic work, which may take time. If the series does not premiere in 2022, then 2023 might be the year.
Uptown Season 1 Plot: What should we expect?
The upcoming miniseries will focus on the Uptown Record label Andre Harell set up. He founded the record label in 1986, shortly after he had left Def Jam Records. He has worked with Russell Simmons, the Def Jas Record founder, but Harrell figured it was also time he did something for himself.
He collaborated with MCA in the joint venture, and his inspiration was finding urban talent that could also appeal in crossing over without failing to include RnB. He managed to do that, and the label has contributed to some of the best talents in 90 hip hop, including Teddy Riley (Fairfax), B.I.G., Christopher Williams, Mary Heavy D, and the Boyz, Al B Sure, and Diddy.
Uptown Season 1 Cast: Who will be in?
The series casting is yet to be revealed, and we do not know when we will be receiving the announcement. Harrell was to star as the show’s executive producer alongside Jesse Collins, but this will not be possible as he is already dead. Collins is the only producer in the series and has produced some successful shows, including The Bobby Brown Story and The New Edition Story, both BET productions. Both shows had over a million viewers and insane social engagement, and we expect the same of the upcoming series.
Uptown Season 1 Trailer: When will it be aired?
