David Cronenberg and Jeremy Irons directed the original 1988 movie of the Dead Ringers and starred as the protagonist playing both Elliot and Beverly Mantle. The two gynaecologists had the trait of seducing their patients, and Beverly falling in love with one of the patients led them through a dark road of depression, drug abuse and paranoia. The new spinoff will, however, take a different route as the series protagonist will be female twins. They share everything from the drugs they abuse to their lovers.
